About Us

The Waverton Hub began in 2013. The Hub aimed to provide members of the local communities of Waverton, Wollstonecraft and neighbouring suburbs to help each other enjoy life. Staying in their own homes, staying healthy and doing it with as little cost as possible were all part of the focus.

Members began rolling in by August 2013 when a program of activities was set up. By April 2015 there were over 300 members with a strong core group of around 70 working on activities, programs, management and communication.

In January 2014 the Hub was awarded the 2014 Community Group of the Year Award by North Sydney Council.

The Hub was also awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award by the Australia Day Council.

Founding Hub President, Helen L'Orange AM and chair of Hub Management Committee Nelly Wong were awarded individual North Sydney Community Awards in recognition of outstanding service to the community. Helen L'Orange was inducted into the Hall of Fame North Sydney Community Awards. Both Helen and Nelly continue to be involved with the Hub.

In 2020 Urbis, an interdisciplinary consulting firm offering services in planning, design, property, social planning, economics and research, issued an Evaluation Report on the Waverton Hub which assessed the first six years of the Hub's operation. It found that "The Waverton Hub has generated significant value for members and the local community"; that "The Waverton Hub has successfully attracted a stable and growing membership"; "The Waverton has established an impressive array of regular and reliable activities which meet the varied interests of Hub members";"The Waverton Hub has encouraged its members to contribute to the management and operation of the Hub"; "members are strongly connected through Hub activities which foster new friendships"; "The Hub has entered into MoUs to formalise relationships with local organisations'; "Members are extremely positive about the Hub and highly value its activities";"There is a high level of community participation in Hub activities";"Members consistently report many positive outcomes from the Hub";"Hub members are more aware of, and have been linked to, local services";"Members report many benefits from contributing";"More people are looking out for one another";"Some local businesses and services have benefited from the Hub";"The Hub has strengthened the local community":"The Hub is challenging social norms about ageing and retirement".
