Janet Carding had the audience fascinated as she revealed the work the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust was doing on various sites around the Harbour.
Janet concentrated on sites some of the Hubbers have visited on their walks. Here are a few of the highlights.
1. The Sydney Sub Base Platypus at Neutral Bay which is virtually finished. The Trust has converted the old Torpedo Factory into a space for markets and events and kept as much of the history as possible in turning the area into a park and community space.
2. At Middle Head the Trust has created a network of trails and roads that link Middle Head with Balmoral Beach - this is ongoing.
3. At North Head North Fort, which is a remnant military complex at the north entrance to Sydney Harbour, has been opened to the public as 'Defence of Sydney Tour', an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the men and women who served at North Fort.
4. Cockatoo Island is only at the beginning of its development as a place to explore the former convict gaol and shipyard. Now a World Heritage site, work has already been done opening up the tunnels and creating a walk that follows the old tramlines. More ferries now stop there and we were shown amazing plans for the future.
