Ready to pick up your Boules?
14th November 2025
Boules (also known as pétanque in France) is a relaxed and sociable outdoor game where players take turns tossing heavy metal balls (boules) as close as possible to a small wooden target ball, called the jack or cochonnet. It’s easy to learn, doesn’t require special fitness, and is perfect for friendly competition.
Boules was one of the activities run for Hub members some years ago. It used to take place on the Coal Loader each Thursday afternoon at 4pm, and a full set of boules is still available for use. Attendance has dropped in the past couple of years, so regular sessions are no longer running.
If there’s a keen Boules enthusiast in the Hub community who would like to restart or coordinate sessions—whether at the previous time or a new one—we’d love to hear from you.
