Art and Science Collide in Waverton Tunnels

The century-old underground tunnels at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability are set to transform into a vibrant, multi-sensory sanctuary this August.
A new immersive installation titled "Wings" will allow locals to experience North Sydney’s diverse birdlife through a blend of creativity and environmental science.
Supported by the North Sydney Council, this unique event is a co-production between the Wherenext Theatre Company and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Visitors can explore the underground chambers to discover recycled-material sculptures by Canberra artist Tom Buckland, costume designs by Brendan De La Hay, and interactive science displays curated by Alice Motion. The experience is complemented by video and photography from Anne Morphett, alongside a soundscape composed by Narelle Yeo, Sarah Levins, Jerome Blazé, and Alexis Weaver. [, 2]
The family-friendly walk takes roughly 45 minutes to complete. It operates daily between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm, with live pop-up performances by Conservatorium actor-musicians at midday and 2:00 pm each day.
